This short course from the authors of Paediatric Musculoskeletal Matters (www.pmmonline.org) will provide knowledge to support your musculoskeletal assessment of children and young people in primary and secondary care.

Course Description

This free course is suitable for all clinicians looking to improve their knowledge of musculoskeletal assessment in children and young people, but is particularly targeted at medical students.  Topics include:

  • Is musculoskeletal assessment different in children compared to adults?
  • Case - a 3 year old limping child?
  • What are the 'red flag' features and potential pitfalls in this type of history?
  • Key points in the musculoskeletal history and examination
  • pGALS
  • How to describe children's joints
  • Anatomical landmarks
  • Key abnormalities found in pGALS and what they might mean
  • Common findings in the lower limbs
  • What next?  Investigations and referrals

The course will take around 30 minutes to complete.  You will be able to download a Certificate of Completion upon finishing the course.  

Modules coming soon from the PMM team will focus on the skills needed by GPs, paediatricians and physiotherapists.
