Paediatric Assessment: Developmental and Musculoskeletal Case Studies for Physiotherapists

Paediatrics

6/11/2019

This short, case-study based module focuses on identifying children with possible ‘red flag’ pathology from those with normal gait variants, and aims to describe the assessment process, testing clinical reasoning skills and signposting to further resources that may be useful.

Course Description

This module is primarily aimed at physiotherapists, either new to the speciality of paediatrics, or working within a clinical area where they may come across a paediatric patient.  It may also be useful for physiotherapy and medical students, newly qualified GP’s and health visitors, who may wish to know more about the assessment of gait variants in children.

The module provides specific aims and objectives based around history taking, the assessment process, normal child development, recognising more serious or ‘red flag’ signs, and where to refer on to if necessary.  Participants will work through a series of case studies and activities that provide detailed information around the assessment and reasoning process.

The course will take around 40 minutes to complete.  You will be able to download a Certificate of Completion upon finishing the course.

Other modules from the PMM team focus on the skills needed by GPs, and paediatricians.
