Introduction to HSKK Intermediate test

What is HSKK?

  • HSKK stands for Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi in Chinese, which translates to “Chinese Proficiency Speaking Test”. It is designed to assess test takers' oral Chinese skills.
  • The HSKK is conducted as an audio-recorded exam.
  • The test is divided into three levels: Primary, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Newcastle University Confucius Institute Test Centre currently offers all three levels.
  • What is HSKK Intermediate

  • HSKK Intermediate is mainly designed for candidates who have been learning Chinese at a pace of 2-3 lessons per week for one to two academic years and have mastered around 900 commonly used words.
  • The HSKK Intermediate consists of three sections, totaling 14 questions. The examination duration is 23 minutes, including 10 minutes of preparation time.
  • Test Start Time (All local times): 16:30.
  • Achieving a full score entails earning 100 points, while a cumulative score of 60 or above qualifies as a passing mark. The HSKK scores are valid for two years, starting from the test date.
