An Introduction to Power Electronics, Machines, and Drives (PEMD)

This online CPD course offers a broad overview of Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) technology and its application. It is largely a general awareness course, targeted at delegates who are new to PEMD technology and/or perhaps have limited engineering background. It aims to develop fundamental awareness, knowledge, and increased confidence of PEMD devices and systems, and their diverse range of applications.

Learning Outcomes

  • An awareness of the electrification agenda, and its importance to society.
  • Recognise the importance of Power Electronics, Machines and Drives as a key electrification enabling technology. Identify and analyse a range of PEMD devices and systems
  • Recognise the application of PEMD devices and systems in key sectors, including transport, renewable energy systems, industrial manufacturing, and consumer devices.
  • Awareness of the state-of-the-art, and likely future trends.
  • Course Agenda

    This is a short 3-hour CPD course, delivered entirely online. The course consists of four main topics:

  • An introduction to electrification, and its impact on society.
  • An overview of PEMD technology, and its role as an enabling technology.
  • An insight into key PEMD applications; Transport, Renewable Energy Systems, Industrial Automation and Manufacturing, Consumer Devices.
  • An overview of current state-of-the-art technology, and likely future trends.
