Introduction to PPIE in Research for Research Staff
Eligibility Criteria
This programme is open to people and organisations based in the North East and North Cumbria, as well as those from the following organisations:
- NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
- NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC)
- NIHR Innovation Observatory (IO)
- NIHR Research Support Service (RSS)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU)
- NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN)
- NIHR HRC in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation (HRC)
Course Information
Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement is the action of working with patients and the public to help shape and inform your work. Meaningful PPIE can help improve the quality of your work and help extend its benefits. This session will help you develop an understand of PPIE. We will explore different PPIE activities and their impact, barriers and enablers that exist, and provide examples of PPIE in action.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module, a learner will be able to:
- Understand the terminology used in PPIE
- Increase their understanding of PPIE
- Be able to distinguish and identify PPIE activities, including those that are tokenistic
- Understand the importance of PPIE and its impact
- Be able to consider the barriers and enablers to meaningful PPIE
