Introduction to YCT 3 test

What is YCT?

  • YCT stands for Youth Chinese Test. It is an international standardized test for Chinese language proficiency, designed to assess the ability of primary and secondary school students to use Chinese as a second language in their daily and academic life.
  • The YCT is divided into two independent tests: a writing test and a speaking test. The writing test consists of four levels: YCT 1-4, while the speaking test has two levels: Primary and Intermediate. The Newcastle University Confucius Institute Test Centre currently offers all levels of both tests.

    • What is YCT 3?

  • YCT (Level 3) Evaluates the proficiency of test takers in applying Chinese in everyday life. Successful candidates at this level can engage in simple and direct communication on familiar daily topics, achieving an elementary to intermediate level of proficiency.
  • YCT (Level 3) consists of two parts: listening and reading, with a total of 60 questions. The exam duration is 60 minutes, including 5 minutes for test-taker information filling.
  • Test Start Time (All local times): 09:00.
  • The YCT (Level 3) score report provides scores for listening, reading, and total points. The maximum score is 200, and a total score of 120 or higher is considered passing. YCT scores remain valid for an extended period.
