Eligibility Criteria
This programme is open to people and organisations based in the North East and North Cumbria, as well as those from the following organisations:
- NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
- NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC)
- NIHR Innovation Observatory (IO)
- NIHR Research Support Service (RSS)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU)
- NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN)
- NIHR HRC in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation (HRC)
Course Description
A deep dive into the cultural, communal and religious norms of the Jewish faith with a particular focus on the Gateshead Jewish community. The session will enhance your knowledge around Jewish practice including social contact, Sabbath and festivals, family life and attitudes to health. The knowledge gained will help ensure that your interactions with the community are conducted with adequate regard for its sensitivities. We’ll also do a fair amount of myth busting!

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Develop a better understanding of the cultural and religious norms of the Jewish faith
- Be able to interact more sensitively and effectively with the Jewish community
- Understand how cultural norms contribute to attitudes and behaviours around health and wellbeing
