Improving Inclusion of Underserved Groups in Clinical Research
Eligibility Criteria
This programme is open to people and organisations based in the North East and North Cumbria, as well as those from the following organisations:
- NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
- NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC)
- NIHR Innovation Observatory (IO)
- NIHR Research Support Service (RSS)
- NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU)
- NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN)
- NIHR HRC in Diagnostic and Technology Evaluation (HRC)
Course Description
This session will outline why research inclusion is important, will take a look at the barriers that underserved groups face in participating in clinical research, and will explore solutions to improve inclusion – including how public involvement in the design and delivery of research can improve inclusion. The session will introduce the NIHR INCLUDE guidance and use the INCLUDE roadmap as a framework for thinking about inclusion across the life cycle of research projects – from setting priorities to sharing findings. The session will highlight how public involvement is key to improving research inclusion and will share practical examples of how to achieve this.
