Introduction to YCT Oral Intermediate Test

What is YCT

  • YCT stands for Youth Chinese Test. It is an international standardized test for Chinese language proficiency, designed to assess the ability of primary and secondary school students to use Chinese as a second language in their daily and academic life.
  • The YCT is divided into two independent tests: a writing test and a speaking test. The writing test consists of four levels: YCT 1-4, while the speaking test has two levels: Primary and Intermediate. The Newcastle University Confucius Institute Test Centre currently offers all levels of both tests.
  • YCT Oral (Intermediate Level) assesses the test takers' oral Chinese language skills. Those who pass YCT Oral (Intermediate Level) can understand and engage in simple oral communication with native Chinese speakers using Chinese.

  • The YCT Oral (Intermediate) test is divided into three parts, with a total of 14 questions. The exam duration is 21 minutes, including 10 minutes of preparation time.
  • Test Start Time (All local times): 11:00.
  • The YCT Oral Test (Intermediate Level) has a maximum score of 100, and a passing score is 60 or higher.
