Introduction to HSK 3 Test

What is HSK?

  • HSK stands for Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi in Chinese, which translates to “Chinese Proficiency Test”. It is an international standardized test for Chinese language proficiency organized by CTI Co., Ltd. (CTI), a specialized international Chinese language education and testing service company.
  • The HSK is divided into 9 levels, and the Newcastle University Confucius Institute Test Centre currently offers levels 1 through 6.
  • What is HSK 3?

  • HSK (Level 3) is tailored for beginners who have acquired a broader proficiency in Chinese, encompassing skills in listening, reading, and basic writing.
  • HSK (Level 3) has a total of 80 questions, divided into listening, reading, and writing sections. The entire exam takes about 90 minutes (including 5 minutes for candidates to fill in personal information).
  • Test Start Time (All local times): 13:30.
  • The HSK (Level 3) score report provides four scores: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Total. Achieving a full score entails earning 300 points, while a cumulative score of 180 or above qualifies as a passing mark. The HSK scores are valid for two years, starting from the day of the exam.
