Chinese Proficiency (HSK) Course 2A

Who is the HSK2A course suitable for?

The HSK2A course is designed for those who have already completed our HSK1B course or have at least 40 hours of Chinese learning experience. Upon completion of this course, your Chinese vocabulary will reach 220 words.

What textbook is used in this course?

The textbook used in this course is "HSK Standard Course 2" and over the ten-week sessions, we will cover the content of Lessons 1 to 7.

What will you gain from the HSK2 course?

Communication skills

At the end of the HSK2 course, you'll be able to:

  • carry out conversations in daily life about topics such as shopping and ordering
  • talk about experiences like travelling, celebrating birthdays, planning holidays
  • ask for and give permission, suggestions and comments
  • express views, needs, and wishes

Language knowledge

Pinyin

You will further study Pinyin based on the sound foundation laid in the HSK1 course. We'll focus on stresses in words of different numbers of syllables and the intonation of different types of Chinese sentences. You'll gradually learn the rules of the stress of words and sentences and develop a correct feel for the language.

Strokes, single-component characters and radicals

Based on the 52 single-component characters included in the HSK1 course, this course teaches 8 strokes, 14 single-component characters, and 30 radicals. All the radicals and characters are included in this course based on their frequency of usage and character-forming ability. After completing this course, you'll be able to read and recognize the words included in the HSK level 2 test.

Grammar

You will further study Chinese grammar. You'll understand the sentence components of Chinese sentences like subject, object, and predicate. You'll also learn about different types of Chinese sentences like declarative sentences, yes-no questions, specific questions, and affirmative-negative questions.

Culture experience

During this course, you will:

  • gain cultural knowledge about Chinese life, such as table manners and tea culture
  • experience some Chinese traditional festival culture such as the custom of Chinese New Year
  • understand the cultural knowledge contained in radicals and Chinese characters
