By completing this session participants will be able to:

• Identify and describe the different types of impact that PPIE can have across a research project, including on research outcomes, team dynamics, and public contributors.
• Apply practical tools to evaluate and document the contributions and outcomes of PPIE in their own or others’ research.
• Reflect on lessons learned from the involvement process and formulate strategies to improve PPIE planning and practice in future research projects.
• Understand the importance of evaluating the impact from PPIE and its dissemination.
• Reflect on the effectiveness of their study and PPIE activities.
• Identify enablers, barriers, and unintended consequences.

Course Agenda

This session introduces key concepts and frameworks for evaluating the impact of PPIE in research, with a strong emphasis on social value. Participants will explore the broad dimensions of impact—including changes to research processes, team relationships, public contributor experiences, and final outputs. The session highlights how meaningful PPIE can enhance the relevance, accessibility, and usefulness of research, ultimately increasing its social value for communities and society.
