Introduction to YCT 4 Exam

What is YCT?

  • YCT stands for Youth Chinese Test. It is an international standardized test for Chinese language proficiency, designed to assess the ability of primary and secondary school students to use Chinese as a second language in their daily and academic life.
  • The YCT is divided into two independent tests: a writing test and a speaking test. The writing test consists of four levels: YCT 1-4, while the speaking test has two levels: Primary and Intermediate. The Newcastle University Confucius Institute Test Centre currently offers all levels of both tests.
  • What is YCT 4?

  • YCT (Level 4) Assesses the capacity to apply Chinese in everyday situations. Those who pass YCT (Level 4) can utilize Chinese for basic communicative tasks in daily life and studies. Additionally, they can handle most communication needs encountered while traveling in China.
  • YCT (Level 4) consists of three parts: listening, reading, and writing, with a total of 80 questions. The exam duration is 85 minutes, including 5 minutes for test-taker information filling.
  • Test Start Time (All local times): 09:00.
  • The YCT (Level 4) score report provides scores for listening, reading, and total points. The maximum score is 300, and a total score of 180 or higher is considered passing. YCT scores remain valid for an extended period.
